ISSUE 9: LOUIS JORDAN

The Magazine
With a warm and supportive family and a degree in music behind him, Louis Jordan never lacked for confidence - or exuberance. He had always wanted to be an entertainer and everywhere he performed, his flamboyant shows brought the house down.

The Music
Jordan rejected big bands, forming one of the most successful small bands in jazz history. His jumping jazz - a forerunner of rhythm and blues - filled listeners with joy and made them want to dance. Listen out for 'Is You Is Or Is You Aint?', 'Five Guys Named Moe' and 'Saxa-Woogie'.
