ISSUE 37: YANKS IN BRITAIN

The Magazine
Over 90 years ago the Original Dixieland Jazz Band brought jazz to London. The ensuing love-match between hot music and British cool drew many of the finest jazz originators to work in Britain, where they became role-models for jazz-conscious players.

The Music
A galaxy of American stars recorded in Britain, often with local musicians. These transatlantic collaborations produced such gems as Benny Carter's 'Swingin' At Maida Vale'. Coleman Hawkins' 'Lost In A Fog' and the hot dance music of the Rhythm Maniacs.
