ISSUE 1: BILLIE HOLIDAY

The Magazine
The very name Billie Holiday conjures up the image of a woman worn by life but still bravely elegant, standing before a microphone and pouring out her soul. From a childhood of prostitution, through a succession of lovers, husbands and drug problems, she rose to become one of the greatest jazz vocalists of all time.

The Music
Billie Holiday was a great artist, not because of the dreadful things that happened to her but in spite of them. She could transform the most basic song into a thing of beauty by simplifying its melody and shifting its rhythmic emphasis. The mp3 brings you 22 great tracks including 2 bonus tracks featuring artists who influenced her early career - Ethel Waters and Louis Armstrong.
